After a two-year hiatus, this October will see the return of the Motorsport Games, the first edition of the motor sport Olympics, which was held in Rome and the nearby Vallelunga circuit back in 2019. The inaugural Motorsport Games, organised by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in 2019, saw 51 countries compete in six categories. Hungary was represented by a six-strong team at the event, with László Tóth achieving the best result in Formula 4 with a fourth and a seventh place.
The coronavirus epidemic prevented the second Motorsport Games from taking place in 2020 and 2021, but this year's event could take place, and the previously announced host has not changed: the Paul Ricard Circuit and its surroundings will host the much larger motorsport Olympics, which will now feature 17 categories.
After evaluating the applications received, the Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ) has selected the nine drivers who will represent Hungary in seven categories at the Motorsport Games, which will take place between 26 and 30 October.
According to the decision of the MNASZ, Zénó Kovács Zénó in Formula 4, Kristóf Csuti in crosscar, Ádám Szabó and Lilla Horn in go-kart slalom, Balázs Juráncsik in go-kart sprint, Martin Bognár and Tünde Deák in slalom,
in drifting: Utasi Péter, competitor of Hunakamo
Kristóf Artzt will compete in the e-sport, i.e. the simulator category.
The battle of the driftes has already produced some spectacular races at the first Motorsport Games, in challenging conditions that have tested both drivers and equipment. The programme will start with free practice, followed by qualifying and then the top 32 drivers will battle it out for qualification and the gold medal on the Paul Ricard circuit's Driving Technical Centre. Hungarian Péter Utasi said he would need faith, humility, immense will and focus to succeed.
"In this discipline, maximum team coordination is required and the car must also be free of technical faults. If you have these, there is no obstacle. It's a great pleasure and honour to represent Hungary in drift at the Motorsport Games, but of course I can't do better than that. I would be completely satisfied with first place, so I have set the bar higher for myself than in any previous race. My main goal is to outdo myself in every way and if I can do that, I'll be happy." - said Utasi Péter.
